PE NEWS At NGJS

Dear Parents/Carers,

As you know, Norwood Green Junior School is committed to creating a healthy, happy and active learning environment for our pupils. We are carrying on with our daily mile throughout the year groups in order to promote exercise and the positive benefits it has on our overall health. You can keep informed about our sport successes, healthy living workshops and activities and any upcoming PE news on our website!

Our Visit from Jason Robinson

We were very lucky before the Christmas holidays and we got a special visit from Jason Robinson. He is a sporting legend who reached the summit in both Rugby League and Rugby Union. Jason played in 3 world cup finals, scoring England’s only try to help secure the 2003 Rugby Union World Cup in Sydney, Australia.

He gave an inspiration talk to the children in Year 5. Here is what they thought of it:

Jason Robinson's assembly was really inspiring. He spoke to us about his rugby journey. He mentioned about his early life, how he grew up in a deprived area in Yorkshire. He made us realise that no matter where you come from, you can still achieve your dreams.  Even though his family didn't have much money, he went on to become one of the best rugby players. He worked himself up the career. It's motivated me to follow my dreams. His rugby session was very fun. We passed a ball, shoulder to shoulder, around the group. It was very challenging, but I enjoyed it.

Jason Robinson's assembly was fascinating. During the assembly, we were able to watch the highlights of his career. He delivered inspiring messages.  He had a normal upbringing and has managed to become a talented rugby player. He told us to believe in ourselves and to never give up. He never realised how talented he was until his teacher encouraged him to join a rugby club. From there, he became passionate and determined to fulfil his career

What is coming up in PE in the New Year

This term we will be taking part in a number of exciting activities and competitions.

In their PE lessons, children in year 3 will be taking part in swimming lessons and learning the fundamental skills of games. Year 4 and year 6 will be taking part in yoga. We are very excited to try it! Year 5 will be completing a module in dance. Years 4, 5 and 6 will also be learning volleyball.

New Year Fitness Challenge

Why not try this fitness challenge in the New Year. Try complete as many challenges as you can. Remember to be resilient if you are finding it tricky.
